More than 100 quilted items commemorate the Hawaii Quilt Guild's 25th anniversary in “;Celebrate,”; on exhibit at the Academy Art Center's main gallery through May 3.

Arlene Adams, president of the guild, said items on display include wall hangings, jackets and bags as well as quilts.

“;One woman does beautiful beadwork in her designs,”; she said of a quilter who produces art-inspired pieces. Countless other quilting styles, including patchwork and Hawaiian, are also featured in the show. The center's upstairs gallery will also showcase samples from guild classes.

The guild boasts more than 200 members, and they meet monthly to plan shows like this one and share projects and techniques.

“;Sometimes we have 'book reports,' where members share a quilting book they like. Another meeting will feature someone who will teach us indigo dyeing. It's always educational,”; Adams said. “;I love (the guild) because you make good friends and the ladies are always helpful.”;

The Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St., is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call 532-8741.
