Woman injured in fight with ex-boyfriend

Police arrested a 21-year-old Waikiki man who allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend Sunday night.

Police said the 19-year-old woman went to her ex-boyfriend's apartment on his birthday, and they began arguing.

The man allegedly shoved her to the floor, and she was taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a fractured shoulder.

The hospital staff called police, and officers arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Fire destroys apartment, damages 2 others

A fire yesterday morning destroyed the second level of a Poipu Kai time-sharing apartment building, causing an estimated $900,000 damage.

A man was also treated for smoke inhalation, according to a Kauai County news release.

The fire began just before 11 a.m. on the second floor of the two-bedroom unit's lower level, which was destroyed, while the upper level of the apartment was damaged.

Another unit, on the ground floor, was damaged by water, and an adjacent apartment damaged by smoke as well.

Construction workers noticed the smoke and unsuccessfully tried to douse the fire using fire extinguishers.

Ten firefighters and rescue specialists responded, bringing the fire under control at 11:37 a.m. The fire was put out at 12:58 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
