No local splash on signing day

The first day of the national letter-of-intent spring (late) signing period was uneventful one for Hawaii men and women's basketball teams.

Two 6-foot point guards have given oral commitments to play for the UH men, but Jeremy Lay (Northern Oklahoma-Enid) and Dwain Williams (last played at Providence in 2007-08) hadn't yet sent in their letters as of late yesterday. The Rainbow Warriors have four scholarships.

The Rainbow Wahine have three scholarships available under interim head coach Pat Charity. No oral commitments are confirmed, but 2008 Punahou graduate Shawna-Lei Kuehu has an interest in UH.

Prospective athletes have until May 20 to sign.

The Rainbows, coming off a 13-17 season, have their annual awards banquet today at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
