Battleship Missouri using iPods

POSTED: Thursday, April 09, 2009

The Battleship Missouri Memorial is now offering Apple iPod touch tours that allow visitors the option to experience the Missouri at their own pace. Each iPod continues video footage, audio recordings and veteran interviews.

While the memorial's guided tours—the 60-minute battleship guided your and 90-minute explorer's tour—still will be offered to visitors, the Guide2Go tour offers a new level of self-guided exploration that surpasses the memorial's existing AcoustiGuide audio-only player.

“;The Guide2Go tour is a historical piece in its own right, telling a story that spans more than five decades and featuring spectacular footage combined with narration and exclusive eyewitness accounts of men who served aboard the USS Missouri,”; said Michael A. Carr, the memorial's president and chief operating officer.

The video content is organized according to 10 stops on the ship, taking visitors on a journey that spans half a century, from World War II, to the Korean War, through the Cold War and to Operation Desert Storm. Bonus features include special video segments focusing on the ship's horizontal and underwater protection systems, propulsion and special visitor features sometimes overlooked by visitors on standard tours.

The Guide2Go tour is available throughout April at an introductory rate of $7 per person after general admission. Beginning May 1, the cost will be $9 per person after general admission. Call toll-free at 1-877-MIGHTYMO (1-877-644-4896).
