Maui woman, 89, is sixth traffic fatality

A Maui woman has died of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash at a central Maui intersection.

Mildred Richardson, 89, of Kahului died about 10 days after the March 20 accident at Hina and Kamehameha avenues.

She had been treated at a medical facility on Oahu, Maui police said yesterday. Police said the crash resulted in Richardson being partially ejected from a Ford Explorer, which ended up on its side. Richardson, a passenger in the vehicle, was Maui's sixth traffic fatality this year, compared to five for the same period in 2008.

Ill camper airlifted out of Kauai valley

A 26-year-old Maui man was airlifted Sunday out of Hanakapiai Valley on Kauai after becoming ill, according to a Kauai County news release.

The man and his girlfriend had been camping in Kalalau Valley and were hiking out Saturday when the man became ill after drinking stream water, the release said. The girlfriend hiked out to the trailhead and called police at 8:03 a.m.

A rescue helicopter picked him up about 9:15 a.m. and took him to Princeville Airport.

He was taken by ambulance to Mahelona Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, the release said.

Wahiawa man held in slashing attack

Police arrested a 27-year-old Wahiawa man who allegedly assaulted a family member and slashed another man with broken glass.

Police said the suspect was arguing with a 29-year-old woman about family matters when he began punching her. A 29-year-old man intervened and pushed the suspect out of the apartment, police said. The suspect then broke glass louvers and went back into the apartment through a window, police said. He cut the other man's hand with a piece of broken glass, police said.

Officers arrested him for investigation of second-degree assault and abuse of a family or household member. The victims were treated and released at Wahiawa General Hospital, police said.

Woman's ex sought in sexual assault

Police were looking for a 52-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted his ex-wife Sunday.

Police said the suspect and the woman, 51, live in the same Kalihi rooming house, but in separate rooms. Police said that about 12:30 p.m., the man went into the victim's room, argued and then sexually assaulted her. Police said the man then fled.

Suspect sought in rape at gunpoint

Police were looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint early Sunday.

Police said the man and the woman, 33, whom police describe as a prostitute, went to the man's car in downtown Honolulu at about 4:15 a.m.

Police said that inside the car the man brandished a handgun and sexually assaulted the woman, then fled.
