Sexual assault of girl is suspected

Police are investigating a case of possible sexual assault of a 6-year-old Waimanalo girl.

Police said the girl had been playing and fell off a chair at 8 p.m. Sunday.

When her mother was changing her clothes, she found blood on her underwear, police said.

The woman took her daughter to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, where she was examined.

The doctor found injury to the victim's genital area and said it may have resulted either from the fall or from being sexually assaulted, police said.

Police said that because it is unknown whether the child was sexually assaulted, the girl was placed in protective custody yesterday.

The girl, however, did not report any sexual assault, police said.
