Sexual assault of girl is suspected
Police are investigating a case of possible sexual assault of a 6-year-old Waimanalo girl.
Police said the girl had been playing and fell off a chair at 8 p.m. Sunday.
When her mother was changing her clothes, she found blood on her underwear, police said.
The woman took her daughter to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, where she was examined.
The doctor found injury to the victim's genital area and said it may have resulted either from the fall or from being sexually assaulted, police said.
Police said that because it is unknown whether the child was sexually assaulted, the girl was placed in protective custody yesterday.
The girl, however, did not report any sexual assault, police said.
5 males sought in murder attempt
Police are looking for five male suspects who allegedly shot a 23-year-old man in the buttocks early yesterday morning.
The man was drinking beer with some friends in Kalihi when a car stopped and the suspects got out at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday.
Someone yelled "gun," and the man and a witness, 24, ran, police said.
A gun was fired, and the man was hit in the buttocks and the five suspects fled, police said.
The man was taken by the witness to the Queen's Medical Center, from which the shooting was reported to police.
Police have opened a second-degree attempted-murder case.
