Roy Takemoto has joined PBR Hawaii & Associates Inc., an environmental planning and landscape architectural firm, as the managing director of its Hilo office. He was project manager for the construction of the Four Seasons Wailea and owns a private planning practice. He served as the Big Island's deputy planning director between 2001 and 2004, and most recently was former Mayor Harry Kim's executive assistant.

The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation gave $1.3 million to Seagull Schools to support Phase I construction of a child-care center at Ko Olina that will provide early education and care for 150 children. The 1-acre parcel for the school was donated by Jeffrey R. Stone of the Ko Olina Development Corp. and was appraised at $1,740,000.

The Battleship Missouri Memorial received a $10,000 grant from the Chicago-based Tawani Foundation that will support the completion of the memorial's Dental Clinic Restoration Project. The project will serve to educate children on oral health education.

The Aloha Section of the Professional Golfers Association Foundation has pledged $170,000 over four years to the University of Hawaii-Manoa athletic department. The money will be used for scholarships for men's and women's golf team members.

The United Puerto Rican Association of Hawaii Inc. has elected Angel Santiago-Cruz president; Nancy N. Ortiz, vice president; Reyna Santiago, secretary; and John Ortiz, treasurer, to its 2009 board of directors.
