View new colors at Anteprima

Anteprima Plastiq has launched a new color series, “;Stella,”; for its spring-summer 2009 collection. The wire bags in white, pastel orange, pink, blue and green are designed to gleam like stars in the night sky.

Standard square wire bags run from $148 to $326, and those who purchase more than $300 at Ala Moana Center or Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center stores will receive a Stella miniature wire charm.

Hula and shells at Royal Hawaiian

The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, and Mea Makamae, a Hawaiian Treasure, will present “;The Sway of the Shells: Hawaiian Fashion, Culture and Hula”; from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow.

It's a chance to catch up with Niihau shell expert Pamela Ka'ilikini Dow and designer Nake'u Awai while enjoying a hula performance by Joe and Shirley Recca and members of Halau Hula o Namakahulali.

Two fashion presentations will be held on the Royal Promenade: one at 11 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. On view will be wearable art by Awai and Niihau shell leis presented by Dow in a rare appearance on Oahu.

A Mea Makamae marketplace will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Coconut Lanai for those who want to view the leis up close or purchase Awai designs (available from noon to 3 p.m.) for men and women.

Dow, known for her Forever Kauai Niihau shell lei collection, will be accompanied by two Niihauan shell makers and will be repairing and authenticating shells. They will also be demonstrating and selling shell leis.

First Friday brings art and fashion

The worlds of fashion and fine art merge in the work of Kamea Hadar, who will present original art, prints and apparel for viewing and sale at the Ong King Art Center on First Friday, tomorrow.

The event starts at 5 p.m., with live music from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and complimentary cocktails provided by Absolut Mango.
