HIFF's special Oscar Night at Royal deserves award

The HAWAII International Film Festival put on an award-winning Oscar Night Sunday in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, recently reopened after an estimated $60-million luxurious renovation. Activity started at 4 p.m. with cocktails on the beachfront lawn that has a sweeping billion-dollar view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. No amount of money can improve that gorgeous view. Tours of the hotel were offered to party guests. The crowd of 300 moved inside the Monarch Room at 5 p.m., where three large screens were set up to show guests portions of the awards ceremony. “;Lost”; actor Michael Emerson attended. HIFF's Chuck Boller presented an award to Kimi Matar for her HIFF support. It was a dressy affair. I didn't see all of the women but two of the best dressed I saw were Chanel's Katrina Jeynes, and Anita Ekberg type, and Caroline Witherspoon of Becker Communications. Both stand 5 feet 10 and their heels put them over 6 feet. Katrina wore a black satin, strapless Betsey Johnson cocktail dress with rhinestone embellishment at the bustline and Manolo Blahnik slingbacks. It's a good thing some of her jewelry was from Chanel, otherwise she might have gotten the “;stink eye”; from her Chanel boss Joyce Okano. Caroline wore a BCBG strapless black-and-white tiered satin cocktail dress and shoes from Ralph Lauren ...

Nalani Kanaka'ole and Hawaiian clothing designer Sig Zane will be honored March 19 with the Duke's Waikiki 2009 Ho'okahiko Award. The award honors people for their dedication and contribution to perpetuating Hawaiian culture. The pair will receive the award at a private reception at Duke's ...

Lyssa Chapman II, daughter of Duane “;Dog”; Chapman and a member of his posse in the A&E reality television series, “;Dog the Bounty Hunter,”; married Brahman “;Bo”; Galanti Friday evening at Lanikuhonua at Ko Olina. About 200 attended, including the Chapman ohana, extended family, local politicians Rep. Gene Ward and Rep. Kimberly Pine, executive producer of “;Dog the Bounty Hunter”; David Houts and A&E Network execs. Na LeoNalani Choy, Lehua Kalima Heine and Angela Morales—sang “;Rest of Your Life”; as the bride walked down the aisle. Tim Storey conducted the ceremony. He also officiated at the wedding of Dog and Beth Chapman in May 2006. The wedding at Lanikuhonua and wedding preparations at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, were filmed for a future “;Bounty Hunter”; episode. A&E airs Dog's show here at 6 p.m., and repeats it at 9 and 11 p.m. ...
