Mason captures Hilo golf tournament

Nick Mason had eight birdies and shot a final-round 7-under 64 to capture the Hilo Invitational Pro-Am at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Mason finished with a two-day total of 9-under 133 to best first-round leader Jarett Hamamoto by four strokes. He went 1-under 70 yesterday.

Hawaii-Hilo golfer Zadi Ari finished third at 140.

 

Hawaii finishes fourth at UC Irvine

Hawaii lost two water polo matches yesterday to finish in fourth place at the UC Irvine Tournament.

The Rainbow Wahine lost 11-10 to No. 2 Stanford and 12-7 to No. 4 UCLA.

Lisa van Raalte led Hawaii with three goals against Stanford. Against UCLA, the Rainbow Wahine were led by Kelly Mason, Ryan Hanson-Swaner and Monika Eggens with two goals each.

Hawaii Pacific stops Academy of Art

Danny Cox pitched six innings of shutout baseball to lead Hawaii Pacific past Academy of Art 8-3 yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Jonah Hobson went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs for the Sea Warriors (8-0).

Darnell Quinny led the Urban Knights (0-7) with a 3-for-4 performance.

 

UHH splits with San Diego in softball

Christine Pedroza pitched a three-hitter to lead Hawaii-Hilo past San Diego 4-2 in the second game of a softball doubleheader yesterday in La Jolla, Calif.

Jessica Schatz led the Vulcans at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, while Nicole Alconcel hit a solo homer.

The Tritons won the first game 2-1 when Nicole Saari hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.

 

Sea Warriors rout 'Swords in tennis

Hawaii Pacific defeated Chaminade 8-1 in a tennis match yesterday at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Zora Vickova, Tinka Mihova, Aleksandra Stankovic and Lauren Shin all won doubles and singles matches for the Sea Warriors.

Sandra Wikstrom gained the Silverswords' only point with a victory at No. 1 singles.

 

Wily, Berry are players of the week

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Latoya Wily was picked as the Pacific West Conference's player of the week for the fifth time in women's basketball today.

Wily averaged 28.5 and 15.5 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field in two games last week.

Chaminade's Jamar Berry was chosen as the men's player of the week.

Berry averaged 18.7 points and 10 rebounds in three games last week.
