Next Wednesday would have been Alex Suguitan's 37th birthday - but instead his loved ones will hold his funeral.

BENEFIT

        The benefit concert for crash victim Alex Suguitan will be held 9 p.m. Sunday at Chai's Island Bistro at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Tickets are $20 presale and $25 at the door. All proceeds go to the Aloha Alex Fund to help defray his funeral expenses. For tickets, call 375-8229.

Suguitan was killed in a three-car accident in Nanakuli on the morning of Jan. 24 while he was headed to work.

His friends and family are planning a benefit concert Sunday at Chai's Island Bistro to raise funds for his funeral expenses.

“;Alex had so many friends and family members who loved and supported him,”; said Devie Durupan, with whom Suguitan became engaged days before the accident. “;In addition to raising money for Alex's final expenses, we wanted to invite his friends and co-workers and family to celebrate his short but amazing life.”;

Durupan's cousin, Dr. Grace Pascual, is helping to organize the fundraiser. Pascual said Suguitan's loved ones remain stunned since the incident.

“;You still expect him to walk in the front door every day,”; Pascual said. “;Devie and him have been together for 18 years. They were debating to get married on Valentine's or in June.”;

Suguitan was driving to work headed eastbound on Farrington Highway just past Laumania Avenue. An oncoming vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old, crossed the center line about 7 a.m. and collided with Suguitan's vehicle, killing him.

Suguitan's vehicle also struck another vehicle. The teen driver in the first car and two women in the third vehicle were all hospitalized.

Police said the circumstances of the accident remain under investigation. No additional information was available.

The fundraiser will feature musical performances by Kawao, Island Storm and Moki Boy, and a guest appearance by Sista Robi Kahakalau.

“;Alex would have celebrated his 37th birthday on Feb. 18,”; said Suguitan's sister Analisa Ferraer. “;Although we're hoping to raise money for Alex's funeral expenses, we want to make this a celebration.”;
