Kalani blitzes McKinley with strong second half

After scoring only five points in the opening quarter, Kalani stepped it up in the second half to beat McKinley 70-55 last night in Oahu Interscholastic Association girls basketball at Kalani.

The Falcons outscored the Tigers 47-28 in the second half.

Kalani hit 7 of its 10 3-pointers in the second half, led by Ashlyn Onaga's 17 second-half points and Violet Alama's 15 points after the break.

Onaga finished with a game-high 24 points, followed by Alama's 21.

The Chargers outscored the Seariders 14-2 in the second quarter and Jordan Ahakuelo had 10 of her 16 points to give Pearl City a comfortable advantage going into the second half.

Ahakuelo scored a game-high 16 points.

Nile Te'o and Vaimalama Tito combined for 18 first-quarter points and the Red Raiders outscored the Mules 52-27 in the first half en route to a commanding win, the teams' ninth straight victory.

Te'o finished with 23 points to lead Kahuku.
