Plenty of spots for a Super XLIII

POSTED: Saturday, January 31, 2009

Thousands of Honolulu residents will gather with family and friends tomorrow to watch Super Bowl XLIII on television screens large and small. For those with big-screen envy or less than ideal hibachi skills, nearly every bar on Oahu will air the game live. Here are five last-minute options, from a neighborhood watering hole in Kailua to the island's largest stand-alone nightclub:

Aiea Bowl

99-115 Aiea Heights Drive No. 310, 488-6854

Power 104.3 morning duo KC and Taka will host the second annual “;Mega VIP Party”; at the bowling alley, with no cover charge and multiple big-screen televisions.

The Alley Restaurant will open at 11 a.m. tomorrow, offering a full menu and gourmet pizza; an all-you-can-eat game day buffet will also be available for $15. Call for reservations.

Bob's Sports Bar

170 Hamakua Drive, 263-7669

This family-run bar will open at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow and offer happy-hour prices until the game is over.

That means $5 domestic and $7 import pitchers, $3 wells and $2.50 Jaegermeister shots. The bar will also offer a special Super Bowl menu.

The bar also plans a “;Jalapeno Popper Eating Contest”; at some point in the afternoon.

Pipeline Cafe

805 Pohukaina St., 589-1999

With four bars on two levels, a pair of 25-foot screens and more than two dozen TVs, Pipeline Cafe should have no problem accommodating large groups.

The nightclub will offer an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet starting at noon, with representatives from Coors Light to hype the crowd and give away prizes. Coors Light and Killian's Irish Red will be on special for $3.50, with the brew served in 22-ounce collectible cups.

Cover for Pipeline's Super Bowl Bash is $10 at the door.

Rumours Nightclub

Ala Moana Hotel, 955-4811

Rumours Nightclub continues its tradition of partnering with a local radio station to show the big game. The entire on-air staff from 102.7 Da Bomb will be on hand starting at noon to party with contest winners who scored tickets by listening to the radio.

Cover is $10 at the door, which allows you a place to sit and watch the game along with a complimentary pupu buffet (a complete menu is also available). The club's happy hour will be in effect during the game, with $3 Coors Light bottles on special and $3.75 well drinks.

Therapy Sports Grill

Koko Marina Shopping Center, 394-8200

Head to Koko Marina Shopping Center a few hours before kickoff to secure your spot—there are a lot of seats here, but relatively few bar options on this side of the island.

Therapy will open at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, with no cover charge and a special buy-one-get-one-free deal on all hot entree items during the game. Coors Light will be on special ($2 drafts, $3 bottles and $6 pitchers), along with $4 Steinlager Pure bottles and $3 Steinlager drafts.

For daring drinkers, two shot specials will be offered: Therapy Tropical Kamikaze and Therapy Ice Shave shots will cost $3 each until one team walks off the field in Tampa with the Lombardi Trophy in hand.
