One Right Turn makes ambitious trip to play 50 in 50

WHAT STARTED as a regional tour to begin 2009 has turned into a yearlong adventure for the members of One Right Turn as they attempt to play 50 concerts in all 50 states.

;The ambitious undertaking was an idea presented to Imua Garza, Tiffa Garza and Connie Cruz as the trio prepared for a string of East Coast performances scheduled this month.

“;It just evolved,”; Tiffa Garza said via telephone from North Carolina. “;Our management ... wanted to celebrate 50 years of Hawaii statehood.”;

After crunching the numbers a bit, WorldSound Entertainment realized they could afford to rent a tour bus and hit the road in support of “;Ohana,”; a four-CD boxed set that includes One Right Turn's debut, “;Lean on My Shoulder,”; in addition to solo albums from all three band members.

“;What's been really cool is how it's worked out so far,”; said Garza. “;We've known people in the three states we've visited, and they've all brought people they know to the shows.”;

While in New York City last week, One Right Turn performed at The Living Room with special guest Ernie Cruz Jr. and a surprise appearance by John Cruz. They'll continue the tour until February with band members Sean Carrol and Aaron Eslick, Imua and Tiffa's 14-month old son Zeo Garza and Ernie Cruz Sr. in tow.

“;We're going to come back ... and then we leave Feb. 17 for the West Coast,”; Garza said. “;It's ongoing, but our schedule is getting filled.”;
