Suspects sought in assault in Aiea

Police are looking for five people in their teens and early 20s who allegedly robbed a cabdriver Tuesday in Aiea.

The 36-year-old male cabdriver picked up three men, each about 20 years old, and two teenage girls, between 15 and 17 years old, at about 4 a.m. Tuesday in Makiki, police said.

The suspects instructed the cabdriver to go to Aiea and, upon arrival, told him to park on a poorly lit cul-de-sac, police said.

Three of the suspects - a man and the two teenage girls - then got out of the cab and told the driver they would return to pay the fare, police said. One of the remaining men then repeatedly hit the driver with a pool cue, and the other punched the driver numerous times, police said.

The taxi driver fled and called 911. When he returned to his cab with police officers, he found that his wallet had been stolen, police said.

The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was treated and released.
