Mediation Center bestows honors on local mediators Urban and Kaya

The Mediation Center of the Pacific, which promotes the peaceful prevention and resolution of conflicts, recognized Teena Urban and Doug Kaya as Mediators of the Year and Martin Leftik and Ila Peralta as Apprentice Mediators of the Year.

Outgoing Director Roberta Lee-Driscoll received Special Board Recognition for improving the Mediation Center's financial operations.

Helga Frankel was recognized as the Mediation Center Treasure for mediating nearly 2,000 cases over the past 22 years.

Attorney Charlene Anaya received the Lawyer as Problem Solver Award for developing the nationally recognized Kids First program.

King Intermediate School received the Community Peace Award for establishing a Saturday program on “;Effective Communication for Parents and Teens”; in 2007. This year faculty members Rod Martin, Anna Norris and Debi Schmeding and students Ryan Latiolais, Souki Oliver, Christian Pratt and Kaya Wiley created a video showing how conflicts in schools can be prevented.

Artist Don Brown received the Conch Shell Award for creating a video, “;Show's Over,”; that will help schools prevent and reduce conflicts.


eRealty Cos. Inc., owner of the Yacht Harbor Tower, hosted 200 residents and volunteers of the Next Step shelter for a Christmas prime rib dinner. Artist Wyland autographed postcards, and Santa Claus showed up for the keiki.
