Old World vs. New in brews

Is a beer here like a beer from over there? Of course not. But if the proof is in the sampling, make your comparisons at “;Old World, New World,”; 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Willows.

Beer aficionados will compare beers from Europe with those of North America in the January installment of the Willows' Hops & Grinds series. For example, taste England's Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale against Hawaii Nui Brewing Hapa Island Brown Ale.

Also from the Old World: Chimay, Paulaner and E. Smithwick's. From the New World: Sierra Nevada, Deschutes, Mendocino, North Coast, Boston Beer Co. and Rogue Ales.

Tickets, which include a pupu buffet, are $25 advance and $30 at the door. Find them at the Willows, Liquor Collection, Wine Stop or Tamura's Kaimuki. Call 952-9200.
