Journalism internships are available

The Hawaii chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is offering paid full- and part-time summer internships.

Hawaii residents enrolled in a college or university are given preference, as well as students enrolled in a Hawaii college or university.

Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of college by this June. Recent college graduates are also eligible.

The following publications are offering full-time SPJ internships, which will consist of at least 10 40-hour weeks, earning a minimum $3,250:

» Honolulu Star-Bulletin
» The Honolulu Advertiser
» Maui News—applicants should be Maui residents
» Pacific Business News
» Hawaii Business magazine
» Honolulu magazine
» Trade Publishing Co.

The following part-time SPJ internships at local TV news stations will earn $1,750 and are eight weeks long, 27 hours a week:

» KGMB Channel 9
» KHON Channel 2
» KHNL Channel 8
» KITV Channel 4

Applicants must submit an application form (available at www.hawaiispj.org), a letter of introduction, work samples and a copy of a college transcript.

Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 17 and mailed to Internship Committee, SPJ-Hawaii Chapter, 1314 S. King St. No. 718, Honolulu, HI 96814.
