President, VP deserve appropriate honor

I recommend we petition the City Council to recognize George W. Bush and Richard Cheney by rededicating the Honolulu sewage plant in honor of their contributions to the near ruin of our economy, the mortgage disaster they permitted to happen, the weapons of mass destruction that didn't exist and the $3 trillion unnecessary war they brought upon us. Surely their “;waste”; generation far exceeds the plant's capacity to process, and we should let them know it.

I hope the unions will generate petitions to bring this about. It's overdue.

Gutless U.N. ignores source of violence

It's been said that Israel is addicted to violence. I would say to them: You try living under horrific daily rocket attacks for years that killed so many Israelis.

Hamas has vowed to annihilate Israel and its civilian population. Hamas will not come to the table to hammer out a peace agreement. Their idea of a truce is that Israel not attack or retaliate, but it's OK for Hamas to continue random rocket attacks. Sadly, the anti-Semites at the United Nations condemn Israel for using “;excessive force”; while not once mentioning Hamas' daily rocket attacks. I say to Israel: Go get them and teach them a lesson they'll never forget!

What will it take to prove to the world that Israel must prevail and that the terror organization Hamas must be wiped off the face of the earth? The insanity of war is front and center in this conflict. The free world could take lessons from Israel's actions, which in this case are precisely correct.

A few things one might say to president-elect

What would I say to President-elect Barack Obama if I had 10 minutes?

I'd say that our country is the best in the world and that we are all proud of him.

I might warn him that pretty packages aren't always around great gifts.

I would ask him to not treat us as children.

I would ask him not to spend my money foolishly.

Reward success; frown upon sloth, to believe in the power of the individual, not the conglomerates and certainly not the government.

I would ask him to spend more on the military, less on the homeless and the most on space exploration.

I would tell him that the Senate and the House both need term limits; after all, if they can limit the presidents' terms, why can't he limit theirs? Were we not warned of a new aristocracy?

That if households paid less in taxes, more mothers might stay home and work on their children, rather than working for day care.

That reading a book is better than listening to an iPod, and learning how to paint is real, playing with a Wii might not be and going to the beach is always better than staying in your room.

I'd say I know prayer works, that God deserves to be in the classroom, that babies learn prejudice and that the golden rule should be taught. That history is important and our children should learn more.

I'd say that if he ever needed real friends to come to Hawaii, and that if the power's out, you're right, it's time for bed.

I would tell him we all want to believe and that deep down we all know it is up to us as individuals to be responsible for ourselves, and perhaps we just need to be reminded of those who came before us and what they gave up for it.

Bush ought to let Obama take reins now

The most honorable thing President Bush can do is to resign right away so that President-elect Barack Obama can proceed. Everyone looks at Bush as useless and a do-nothing figurehead. Lately the Palestinians have asked Obama for his support and not Bush! Doesn't that mean anything to Bush? Proud as he might be, he is lowering the confidence of all the people in the world on him by his inaction. Obama is doing the right thing by not responding to Israel. It's sad that we have a situation like this where time is of utmost importance.

President Bush, please do the best thing for everyone and resign right away.

It might be illegal but it sure is pretty

While I am aware of the prohibition of certain nonpermitted aerial fireworks and the reasons thereof, I must thank the scofflaws in and around Aina Haina for the spectacular way their displays welcomed the new year. Never have I been more bedazzled by illegal activity.
