Most local U.S. post offices will be closing early today

U.S. Postal Service workers across the state will start their New Year's Day celebration early as most post offices will close their doors early today.

; While all offices will be open for business today except two small facilities serving Pearl Harbor Naval Station, 39 will shorten their retail lobby hours on New Year's Eve. Regular mail delivery will be unaffected by the changes.

Most of the offices will be closing at noon, with these exceptions:

» Oahu: Waikiki -12:30 p.m.; downtown, Fort Shafter, Tripler -1 p.m.; Ala Moana - 2 p.m.; and Honolulu Airport - 5 p.m.

» Kauai: Anahola - 1 p.m.

» Maui County: Maunaloa, Pukalani - 1 p.m.; Hoolehua - 2 p.m.

» Big Island: Pahala - 12:15 p.m.; Mountain View - 1 p.m.; Kapaau, Keaau, Papaikou - 2 p.m.

Hours are posted at each site.

All post offices will be closed tomorrow. Regular hours and mail delivery will resume Friday except at Pearl Harbor, Tripler Army Medical Center and Fort Shafter.

Customers who need to ship packages are encouraged to utilize one of the automated postal center self-service kiosks accessible 24 hours a day at 18 post offices across the state, a release said. The APCs also dispense postage stamps at the swipe of a credit or debit card.
