Nash, Look headline QB luncheon

Hawaii men's basketball coach Bob Nash and Iolani School football coach Wendell Look headline the program at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.

Also on the program is Glenn Young, director of the Iolani Basketball Classic, which concluded its 25th-anniversary tournament last night.

The sportspersons of the month awards for December will be given to Hawaii Baptist girls volleyball coach Myles Shioji and state Gatorade volleyball player of the year Sarah Palmer of HBA.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Hotel. The program follows at noon.

 

UH men's volleyball tickets on sale

Season tickets for Hawaii men's volleyball go on sale beginning tomorrow at reduced prices from last year.

Lower-level tickets are $150 (plus $100 premium seat contribution) with upper-level tickets at $100 for adults, $85 for seniors and $40 for students.

All UH students will be admitted free with valid ID card.

Tickets are available at the Stan Sheriff Center box office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; through http://www.HawaiiAthletics.com or by phone (944-2697).

The program is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the 17th year under coach Mike Wilton. The Warriors open their 17-match home schedule with the Jan. 8-10 Outrigger Hotels Invitational featuring defending national champion Penn State, Ball State and USC.

 

Wahine volleyball banquet set

The Hawaii women's volleyball team banquet is scheduled for Jan. 25 at the Hale Koa Hotel's Waikiki Room.

Cost for the brunch, which begins at 10:30 a.m., is $45 ($40 for boosters). Reservations and payments are due by Jan. 20.

Vulcans down Fighting Scots

A 14-1 run midway through the first half gave host Hawaii-Hilo a double-digit lead and the Vulcans went on to a 90-77 victory over the College of Wooster in a nonconference men's basketball game at Afook-Chinen Civic Friday night.

Senior forward Jay DeMaestri led the Vulcans (5-2) with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard John Smith added 16.

The Fighting Scots (5-4) got a game-high 20 points from Justin Hallowell.

» At Cannon Activities Center, Lucas Alves scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii (5-1) to an 86-52 win over Menlo (3-7) last night.
