Karl E. Kim is representing the University of Hawaii-Manoa and the state at the Local Government Climate Sessions of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland.

Presentations to limit global warming will be made at the event tomorrow through Thursday.

Kim, professor of urban and regional planning, said in a news release: “;Cities are not just part of the problem, they must be part of the solution in terms of limiting greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the many impacts of climate change.

“;We need to redesign our cities so that they are more sustainable, energy efficient and resilient to extreme weather events.”;

He said mayors worldwide are signing the World Mayors and Local Government Climate Agreement with a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent from 1990 levels and by 80 percent from 1990 levels in industrialized countries.
