2 suspects sought in armed robbery

Police are looking for two men who robbed a 49-year-old Waikiki woman at knifepoint yesterday in her home.

The woman reported that the two unknown men forced their way into her home between 4 and 5:30 a.m.

She told police the men assaulted her, threatened her with a knife and demanded money. The men allegedly took her car keys and fled in her vehicle.

 

NORTH SHORE

Lifeguards save 8 from high surf

Lifeguards warned 700 people and made eight rescues yesterday during the high surf on the North Shore, according to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

The warnings and rescues, including one by watercraft, occurred before 2 p.m.

Man who died in jail identified

Big Island police have identified a 47-year-old Hilo man who died in a Hilo jail cell on Nov. 29 as Barry Joseph Curl.

An autopsy performed on Curl on Tuesday did not determine the exact cause of death, police said. His body had no signs of traumatic injury.

Final determination of Curl's death was deferred, pending the outcome of toxicology tests.

Police are conducting a standard administrative investigation to determine whether department policies and procedures were followed.

 

Hit-and-run victim from Ocean View

Big Island police identified yesterday a 43-year-old Ocean View man killed in a hit-and-run accident in Kau as John Patrick Burns.

Burns died Thursday of multiple traumatic injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, police said.

Burns was hit while walking on Hokulani Boulevard in the Hawaiian Ocean View Ranchos subdivision sometime between 11:30 Wednesday night and 1:08 Thursday morning. The driver fled the scene.

Police said a resident found Burns in the middle of the road.
