PBS to air documentary about Washington Place

“;Washington Place: Hawaii's First Home,”; a documentary tracing the role the home has played in local history, airs at 8:30 tonight on KHET/PBS.

The film begins with the building of the home in 1841 and continues through its transformation into a unique living museum that is open to the public and used by the governor for official functions.

The documentary, produced and written by local filmmaker Robin Lung, features interviews with historians and former first ladies, and an assortment of songs composed by Queen Liliuokalani.

-The artist Peggy Chun, who died last week after a long battle with ALS, is featured in a rebroadcast of “;Art Smarts,”; 7 p.m. tomorrow on Educational Channel 56.

The Teleschool Branch of the Hawaii State Department of Education produced the feature in 2002, featuring Chung and artist Page Chang working with watercolors. The show also visited Chun in her Nuuanu studio. Call 837-8004.

Holiday concert benefits food bank

A holiday concert will be held tomorrow at the state Capitol; the music's free, but everyone in the audience is asked to bring a donation to benefit the Hawaii Foodbank.

“;A Capitol Christmas,”; from 6 to 9 p.m. in the basement-level auditorium, will feature Patrick Koh, the Krush, Tradewinds, Angeli Callo, Pacific Heights, the Inspirations, Earl Stuckey, Norlita Yere, Arshiel Calatrava and more. Call 688-7799 for more information.

St. Andrew's to hold holiday fair

St. Andrew's Priory is holding its annual holiday fair featuring a Town & Country store, arts and crafts, entertainment and, of course, yummy food.

Festivities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at 224 Queen Emma Square. Free parking at Central Middle School's makai parking lot. There also will be street parking, and the Department of Health, state Capitol, Bishop Square, Alii Place, Kukui Place and Capitol Plaza will offer their lots. The fair ends at 2 p.m.

Fancy cats appear at McCoy show

Cat lovers will gather Saturday for the South West Regional Fanciers Association's cat show at McCoy Pavilion.

Five judges will vote in several categories, including all-breed, purebred and household cats.

The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and children.

Horse-riding group to hold fundraiser

Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii hosts a holiday fundraising party, 5 p.m. Saturday at the Waimanalo Polo Field Clubhouse.

The event, marking the reopening of the group's renovated facility, will include dinner, door prizes, silent auction and entertainment by Green Eggs and Sam.

Cost is $20 general, $12 for children.

Therapeutic Horsemanship provides horse-riding opportunities to residents with special needs.

Tickets available for Chinese show

Tickets go on sale Saturday for the Divine Performing Arts' exhilarating show. The Chinese dance and music company performed to a sold-out audience in April.

The company will bring their music to life telling ancient heroic legends and modern tales of courage while dressed in breathtaking costumes.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. March 30 and 31, and 2 p.m. March 31 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
