Loe takes over as KGMB anchor

KGMB-TV is expected to name Stacy Loe as its new 10 p.m. anchor today.

A teaser video on the station's Web site last week did not identify her, but said she has lived in Hawaii her entire life, studied at the University of Hawaii and has covered some major stories in her 18 years at the station.

Loe has worked at KGMB for 18 years.

The position will be vacated by longtime anchor Kim Gennaula after the Nielsen ratings period ends Wednesday. She has taken a job with Kapiolani Health Foundation.

Loe has long been a reporter and weekend anchor and co-anchor Keahi Tucker prepared a story about her life and rise to the plum anchor position to introduce her to viewers. It will air tonight.

 

Science Foundation to visit isles

The National Science Foundation and the University of Hawaii will be holding three workshops on Dec. 3, 4, and 5 about the NSF and its programs.

Hawaii is one of six states the foundation has selected to host an NSF Day this year.

The NSF workshop on Dec. 3 will be held at Maui Community College and will provide an overview of the foundation and focus on NSF programs of interest to community colleges.

A similar workshop will be held at Honolulu Community College on Dec. 4.

The workshop on Dec. 5 will focus on four-year undergraduate and research institutions and will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Hawaii.com redesigns Web site

Hawaii.com, which offers more than 5,000 pages of information devoted to the state, said last week that it has redesigned its Web site to include new information and tools, reorganized into three major sections: plan and book travel, things to do, and dream and shop.

The site also offers a list of updated hotel packages and deals and uses Expedia as a booking tool.

There are also tools for viewing slide shows, virtual tours and a new selection of island videos, which can be now be shared.

The site has more than 700,000 members, with no cost to join or participate.

 

Isle milk production drops 36%

The Hawaii Department of Agriculture said milk production fell 36 percent to 1.4 million pounds in the month from a year ago.

The average number of layers on hand was 330,000, up fractionally from August 2008 but down 10 percent from last year.

September's commercial beef production in the state totaled 583,000 pounds, up 9 percent from last year. Commercial pork production also rose 9 percent to 275,000 pounds.

Egg production totaled 5.8 million in September, down 9 percent from 2007.
