Rainbow Wahine lose opener

Aleyse Evans scored 15 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Loyola Marymount over Hawaii 63-47 in the season opener for both teams at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational in Hilo.

Evans was 7-for-10 from the field and collected four steals for the Lions.

Leilani Galdones led the Rainbow Wahine with nine points in 19 minutes. Hawaii had 10 players score.

Hawaii faces Toledo at 2 p.m. today.

 

Sharks stay alive in HWB

Satoshi Nagai allowed one run in seven innings and the Honolulu Sharks beat the Waikiki BeachBoys 4-1 at Les Murakami Stadium to force a playoff before tomorrow's Hawaii Winter Baseball championship game.

Honolulu (17-17) and Waikiki (18-17) will play today for the right to face the West Oahu CaneFires for the league title.

 

Sijsling advances in Honolulu Futures

Second-seed Igor Sijsling defeated Matt Reid of Australia 6-1, 6-1 yesterday in a quarterfinal match of the Honolulu Futures tennis tournament at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The Netherlands native will join fellow quarterfinal winners No. 5 Andrey Kumantsov, No. 6 Daniel Yoo and unseeded Alexander Domijan in today's semifinal round.

In semifinal doubles action, James Ludlow and Andreas Siljestrom of the United States upset the fourth-seeded team of Andrey Kumantsov and Tigran Martirosyan 6-7 (8), 6-1, 16-14.

Ludlow and Siljestrom will meet the top-seeded Sijsling and Reid in the final tomorrow.

Tadeo to coach Chaminade golf team

Chaminade named Joey Tadeo as head men's golf coach, the school announced yesterday.

Over the last two years, Tadeo has served as assistant golf coach at Pearl City High. He is currently an operations manager at the Royal Kunia Country Club.

Tadeo has played in many Aloha Section PGA tournaments, with multiple top-three finishes.
