Free concert at Hulihe'e Palace

A free concert honoring King David Kalakaua takes place at 4 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of Hulihe'e Palace in Kona.

Performing will be the Merrie Monarchs and the halau Na Pua Ui O Hawai'i.

Also to be recognized are palace curator Lei Collins and bandmaster Charles “;Bud”; Dant.

The concert will take place on the south lawn; bring mats or chairs.

For those who'd like to arrive early or stay late, a free “;chair check”; will be offered across the street at Emma's Square from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Park your chair and enjoy the Kokua Kailua Village Stroll, when Ali'i Drive is turned into a pedestrian mall.

Hulihe'e Palace has been closed for repairs after suffering $1.5 million in damage in the October 2006 earthquake. Donations to the Hulihe'e Restoration Fund are accepted send checks to Hulihe'e Palace, 75-5718 Ali'i Drive, Kailua-Kona 96740.

Letarte opens in Paia

Letarte is opening its flagship store tomorrow on Baldwin Avenue in Paia, Maui. The luxury swim and cover-up brand was started by sisters Lisa Letarte Cabrinha and Michele Letarte Ross, who will donate 10 percent of the store's first week of sales to the Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter, toward preserving Hookipa Beach Park.

Holiday 'au naturel' makeup tips

Bravon Pascua, International Makeup Artist for Bare Escentuals, will be sharing tips on creating a holiday look “;au naturel”; during appearances at Sephora Ala Moana and Pearlridge, utilizing Bare Escentuals' line of bareMinerals free of preservatives, oils, fragrances and other chemicals.

The events will also feature the unveiling of Bare Escentuals' limited-edition kits including the Ruby Collection, Extreme Glimmers Kit, Bare Pleasures and bareMinerals Mineral Veil On-the-Go.

Allisonizu making boutique debuts

After their debut last week, Allisonizu's exclusive petite denim line has found its way into two boutiques, with trunk shows this weekend allowing the opportunity to meet the designer and get fitted with the perfect pair of petite jeans.

First, the Butik will present a trunk show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at its 10067 Kapiolani Blvd. (Public Storage Building) location. There will be door prizes every half-hour, refreshments and a free tote bag with purchase for the first 50 people. Call 593-4484.

Split Obsession will host its trunk show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at its Koko Marina Shopping Center location, where there will also be goodie bags and prize giveaways, and those purchasing a pair of Allisonizu denim will also receive 20 percent off a top to complete the outfit. Saturday is Holi-Diva Day at Kahala Mall, an evening of fashion and fun, with discounts and one-night-only gifts with purchase from participating merchants, from 5 to 9 p.m. Highlights:
