Seasiders in soccer regional

The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA II West Regional tournament for the first time in the three-year history of the program, and will face UC San Diego in the first round Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seattle Pacific's Interbay Field.

The Seasiders, seeded sixth, won the Pacific West Conference championship for the second year in a row, but the league did not have an automatic bid for postseason play last season.

BYUH faced the Tritons once before, losing 1-0 last year at home. The winner will face second-seeded Seattle Pacific at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

There are many great sporting events in Hawaii, but surf fans will tell you that nothing matches the history, drama and danger of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

The 12-day holding period for the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa begins tomorrow. This is the first jewel of the Triple Crown and is a 6-Star Qualifying Series event. Following this contest is the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing men's contest and Roxy Pro women's event at Sunset Beach from Nov. 12 to Dec. 7. » B6
