Paying attention to detail.

WAHINE VOLLEYBALl

It's what the Hawaii women's volleyball team did yesterday, both on and off the court in Boise, Idaho. The seventh-ranked Rainbow Wahine took a guided tour of the Morrison Knudsen Nature Center, which included a stream walk and a chance to spot wildlife—no moose, but there were squirrels.

In the gym, Hawaii's light workout was “;enough to break a sweat,”; Wahine coach Dave Shoji said in a phone call yesterday. “;We worked on skills and focused on paying attention to details, such as the blocking plan in the scouting report.

“;Being able to follow the scouting report might not make a difference this time around, but it will matter once we get into the NCAA tournament.”;

Today's match at Idaho will be a good test. The Vandals, third behind Hawaii and New Mexico State in the Western Athletic Conference standings, feature senior hitter Haley Larsen, ranked eighth nationally in kills (4.55 kps). They also have an effective blocking scheme anchored by junior middle Anna McKinney, 16th nationally with 1.39 bps

“;Our goals continue to be the same,”; Shoji said. “;We have to control their outsides, pass well, be efficient and hit for a high percentage.”;
