Event showcases Hawaii authors

A showcase of local books and authors is planned for 3 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Queen Emma Summer Palace.

The Daughters of Hawai'i hosts the third annual event at Emmalani Hale, featuring local authors and illustrators signing their books and discussing their work.

Titles from children's tales to cookbooks to novels will be sold, along with several Daughters of Hawai'i publications.

Admission is free; proceeds from books sales benefit the Daughters' work to preserve the summer palace and Hulihe'e Palace in Kailua-Kona.

INTO showcases eco-fashion

INTO will be presenting eco fashion accessories by local artists from 5 to 9 p.m. during First Friday tomorrow, and repeating Nov. 13, to show commitment to eco-conscious design.

On view will be ocean-inspired jewelry by Kismet's Creations, with bronze, fine silver, gemstone and freshwater pearl bracelets, necklaces and pendants made by Jennifer and Rafe Maldonado. All their shells and pearls come from sustainable farms, and a portion of their sales are donated to environmental charities.

Kini Beach features a line of small totes made from recycled straw beach mats and pieces of inner tubes and floaters abandoned on Waikiki beaches.

Soleil boutique hosts trunk show

Soleil boutique will be hosting a trunk show tomorrow, introducing new local designers Cassandra Rull, who creates one-of-a-kind vintage apparel, and Urgentina Bikinis, which offers couture island-inspired bikinis embellished with island shells and precious stones.

There will be cocktails from 6 to 9 p.m., and shoppers will also enjoy discounts.
