Kona driver dies after truck flips

A 75-year-old Kona man died Tuesday after the tractor-trailer truck he was driving went off the road and overturned near Kona Airport.

Police identified the driver as Takeo Nagamine of Holualoa.

Police said Nagamine was driving a 1992 Kenworth truck north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway just after 11:30 a.m. when the truck went off the right side of the road and overturned. Nagamine was thrown from the truck, police said. The trailer was empty, officials said.

Nagamine was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he died.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine whether Nagamine died from a medical condition or from injuries suffered in the crash, police said.

Man, 24, arrested in alleged burglary

Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he was caught allegedly rummaging through another man's storage shed.

About 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, a 28-year-old man saw the suspect going through his property in a storage shed at his Pearl City home, police said. Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of first-degree burglary.

Kalihi man charged in fatal stabbing

Police charged a 27-year-old Kalihi man with murder in the stabbing death of another man late Monday.

Renson Joseph was charged with second-degree murder and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

He is accused of stabbing 36-year-old Otomar Muritok, to whom he is related by marriage. The men were watching TV at a Kaahumanu Homes apartment on Waiakamilo Road about 10:30 p.m. when they argued and Joseph stabbed Muritok, according to a family member.

Church school resumes after fire

Classes at the Central Union Church Preschool and Kindergarten resumed Tuesday after a devastating fire that's still under investigation.

Church officials said the students have been moved to other facilities, such as parish halls and a library, for classes.

On Oct. 22, a fire damaged three classrooms, a teacher's lounge, a storage room and an office at the century-old building. Police have opened an arson investigation. Fire spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said investigators have not determined a cause.

Man arrested in theft of new car

Police arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly stole a new car from a dealership.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, police went to Iwilei to investigate a suspicious parked vehicle with no license plates. Checks of the abandoned pickup truck revealed it was recently reported stolen from an airport-area car dealership.

A witness identified the suspect as the man who drove the car and parked it in Iwilei, police said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of auto theft.

WAIKIKI

Man, 20, accused of hitting girlfriend

Police arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly hitting his girlfriend with a tree branch.

At about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, the suspect was arguing with his 16-year-old girlfriend on Kanekapolei Street in Waikiki, police said.

The suspect then allegedly hit the left side of the girl's face with a broken tree branch. Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of second-degree assault.
