POSTED: Friday, October 31, 2008

IT'S BEEN five years since Clubland got the chance to celebrate Halloween on a Friday, and local promoters are pulling out all the stops to make sure 2008 is memorable for everyone who wants to party.

If I had to pick just one event to attend tonight, it would be “;Gotham City,”; the Halloween party hosted by Furious Styles Productions at the Living Room. This is the third year promoter Bryan Simpson has transformed the Fisherman's Wharf nightclub with extravagant decorations.

“;We have a real advantage over other venues because they cannot decorate like us,”; Simpson said. “;Others can only do corny Halloween decorations they find at Halloween stores, (but) cannot alter the actual club.”;

After hosting “;The Side Show”; in 2007 and “;Where the Wild Things Are”; in 2006, Simpson plans to pattern “;Gotham City”; after Batman's fictional hometown, complete with painted cityscapes, street lights and other “;creative decorations.”; Get to the Living Room before 11 p.m. with a valid college ID, and you'll get in free.

The Living Room isn't the only spot that will adopt a Gotham-like atmosphere on Friday. Senor Frog's presents “;The Dark Frog”; with music by Everyday People and DJs Wu-Chang, Cris Cutt, Asia and Chuck, while Pearl Ultra Lounge partners with Flash and Matty Boy Productions for “;The Dark Night: Heroes and Villains,”; with a $15 cover in effect for anyone in costume ...

Cover is $30 ... Just around the corner, DJ Eskae hosts “;Trill-Errrr!”; at thirtyninehotel. This special edition of his “;Soul Clap”; monthly will double as a mixtape release party for fellow Nocturnal Sound Krew member DJ Compose's new joint, “;Can't NOC the Hustle, Vol. 2,”; a collaboration with local blogger Ges “;KNOWxONE”; Miyashiro ... Import scene promoters Evol Entity, Kaizo Speedgear and Moguls Entertainment return to Tsukiji Fish Market for a one-time, 21-and-over party that starts at 10 p.m. Honolulu's busiest female waxmaster, DJ Betty, will be on the decks until 2 a.m. ...

  OUTSIDE THE CLUB: If you already checked out “;Shockhouse”; at the Blaisdell Center, head to Hawaii Plantation Village for another frightening experience, courtesy the GroundUP Pirates. “;Haunted Plantation”; is described as “;Hawaii's largest and scariest haunted event”; and is open from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, with a $7 admission for everyone ages 10 years and older ... Instead of going out to collect candy, bring a canned item to Wahiawa Middle School to help out the Hawaii Food Bank. Local rockers Olivia will be there to perform at 6:30 p.m. Friday with special guests. Cover is $7 at the door ... Liquid Amber and DJ Victor Evil headline an impressive house party at a house in Portlock on Saturday.
