Pastor brought ministry to 3 isles

The Rev. Paul McLeod, 68, who served at Catholic parishes on Maui, Oahu and Kauai, died Oct. 20 at his home in Wailua, Kauai.

McLeod retired from active ministry in 2004 after being pastor of Immaculate Conception parish in Lihue for 10 years. Since then he served as spiritual care coordinator with the Kauai Hospice.

He had previously been associate pastor in St. Augustine Church in Waikiki, St. Patrick Church in Kaimuki, St. Michael Church in Waialua and at Maria Lanakila Church in Lahaina.

McLeod was born in Cleveland. He pursued a career in business after receiving a bachelor's degree from DePaul University in Chicago. He was called to the ministry and was ordained a priest at the age of 44. He was a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He earned a master's degree in religious studies from the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, Calif.

He is survived by brother Phil Schultz of Ohio, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue. Friends may call after 8:15 a.m. Burial will be in Kauai Memorial Gardens. Borthwick Kauai Mortuary handled arrangements.
