POSTED: Thursday, October 16, 2008

October is breast cancer awareness month and to help promote the cause, businesses are urging people to think pink, offering special items to raise funds for breast cancer research. Here are just a few:

Folli Follie

Folli Follie has designed a limited-edition “;Icons Mobile Phone Strap”; in two versions, both featuring three removable stainless-steel charms in the signature brand motifs of lock and key, daisy and clover. A pink leather heart or flower, with the “;FF”; logo as an added charm, completes these pieces.

A Hawaii version has “;Hawaii”; stamped on the clover. Only 100 of the Hawaii exclusive are available, only this month.

The lobster-claw design allows charms to be transferred from the phone strap to bracelets or necklaces, so the wearer can change her accessories as she wishes.

Fifty percent of proceeds from the Folli Follie “;Icons Mobile Phone Strap”; will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Hawaii affiliate. Retail price is $130, at Folli Follie boutiques in Ala Moana Center, Waikiki Beach Walk and The Shops at Wailea, Maui.

Polo Ralph Lauren

Polo Ralph Lauren started its Pink Pony Collection in 2000 to support cancer treatment, research, early diagnosis and patient education in medically underserved communities.

Sales from its line of pink logo merchandise, available at the Ala Moana Center boutique, will benefit the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation Pink Pony Fund.

Polo Ralph Lauren is also the first luxury retailer in the United States to launch a mobile commerce (m-commerce) service, enabling consumers to make purchases through the rapidly growing mobile channel. Net proceeds from October purchases made through the mobile site, m.ralphlauren.com, will benefit the Pink Pony Fund.

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor offers “;ANN Cares”; cards in all of the company's stores and online. Ninety percent of the purchase price of every card sold is donated directly to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Brighton

Brighton at Ala Moana Center celebrates the “;Power of Pink”; with an exclusive charm bracelet, including a pink ribbon charm, offered through Oct. 31. The company will donate $5 from the sale of each $60 bracelet to support breast cancer research.

Swarovski

Swarovski is offering its iconic Nirvana ring in pink this month, with a portion of sales of each $260 ring benefiting the Libby Ross Foundation's yoga program for breast cancer survivors. Only 2,000 rings will be produced. Look for it at the Ala Moana Center boutique or visit www. swarovski.com.

Hard Rock

Hard Rock marks “;Pinktober”; with a women's black T-shirt ($28), “;Pinktober”; pin ($12) and “;Pinktober”; keychain ($20), with a portion of the proceeds (75 percent for the pin and 15 percent for the shirt and key chain) benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The “;Pinktober”; pin is the ninth in a series, featuring a silver, three-dimensional curved hinge covering the body of the guitar, filled with clear rhinestones. Opening the hinge reveals a hot pink acoustic guitar with a pale pink ribbon design, a symbol for breast cancer supporters. The pin also bears the message, “;Stop Breast Cancer for Life.”;

The keychain features seven charms that capture the spirit of peace, love, life and rock 'n' roll—a pink ribbon, heart, peace sign, microphone, guitar, lip print and the Hard Rock logo.
