COMING UP

Hawaii Fishing Fest offers fun to the gills

See fish, eat fish, learn about fish at the Hawaii Fishing and Seafood Festival, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Honolulu Fishing Village, Pier 38.

The purpose is to promote marine conservation, ocean safety and responsible fishing, but if that sounds just too educational, there's fun to be had, too. Tour a fishing vessel and the fish auction, take a fishing workshop or watch a demonstration, take up Gyotaku (fish printing), play games and observe cooking demonstrations.

Or, spend some money on fishing supplies—buy direct from vendors, or place bids in a silent auction.

Entertainment will be by Imua, Keiki Palaka Band and Namaka O Puuwai Aloha and Believe.

Admission is free. Parking is limited, though—a shuttle will run from a free lot at Honolulu Community College starting at 8 a.m. There will be limited free valet parking at Pier 38.

Call 265-4962 or visit www.fishtoday.org.
