The state Department of Agriculture honored several department employees: Dexter Cho, employee of the year; Carol Okada, manager of the year; and livestock inspector Laura Ayers, clerk typist Barbara Schafer and environmental health specialist Dean Yoshizu were each given the Sustained Superior Performance Award.

  Julie Uyemura of Mililani was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award for her community and anti-drug initiatives.

  Erin Akiyama of Kaneohe received a $1,000 Times Super Markets Scholarship, sponsored by the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation. She will attend Chaminade University.

  David Cleveland, retired sociology professor at Honolulu Community College, was named Professor Emeritus, Community Colleges, after 33 years of service.

  ”;Menopause the Musical,”; which played at Hawaii Theatre in April, donated $15,000 to the Women's Cancer Center at Kapiolani Medical Center.
