Wahine still
winless in WAC

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah women's soccer team took advantage of Hawaii's inability to play a first half with authority en route to a 4-1 Western Athletic Conference Pacific Division triumph yesterday.

The Utes (9-4 overall, 1-1 WAC) scored three goals in the first half and Hawaii suffered its 12th consecutive conference defeat. UH, in its third WAC campaign, has yet to win a conference match.

Tricia Nishikawa scored for Hawaii (7-4, 0-2) at 70:17 of the second half. Kelly Keohen made a nice run down the right side and centered a pass that set up the goal.

Nishikawa's fifth goal ties her with Lara Anzai and Nicki Arakawa (1995) for most goals scored in a season.

"We've got the road-trip blues," said UH head coach Pinsoom Tenzing. "We gave away three goals in the first half with silly mistakes.

"I don't know what it is, but the kids are coming out after five or 10 minutes unable to breathe. Then, as the game goes along, they get stronger.

"We actually were dominating toward the end. We created a lot of chances, but just couldn't put them away."

The Wahine end the road trip tomorrow with a nonconference match against Weber State (10-2).
