Natasja Allen, a 6-foot-2 power forward from Port Orchard, Wash., has made a verbal commitment to play basketball for the Hawaii Wahine next year.

She averaged almost 20 points and 11 rebounds per game last year for state tournament participant South Kitsap High School (24-5).

Allen, who made her recruiting trip here last weekend, said, "The players were just funny and nice and I really enjoyed myself at the volleyball game.

"The coaching staff has been good about calling and checking up to see how I was doing. I got to talk with some professors and just liked it there. I canceled my other recruiting trip (to Idaho) today."

"She has great hands, good post moves and just loves to play, a gym-rat type player," said South Kitsap head coach Gary Wilson.

"Natasja was MVP of the Narrows League last year and broke (current Wahine) Kyla Evers single-season scoring record. She's only a couple hundred points away from the career scoring record."

Allen said she will sign a letter of intent during the early signing period, Nov. 11-16.
