Dings are part of a surfboard's life. The breaks don't just happen from rocks and reefs. Quick fix handy for
nasty surfboard dingsSurfboards often get banged up by airline baggage handlers or by surfers themselves when being loading onto a car rack.
The problem is that whenever a board's fiberglass covering is broken it exposes the underlying foam which soaks up water like a sponge, causing discoloration, rot and adding more weight.
Ding repair most often is done at home because it takes a while for the resin to dry, then sanded and pigmented.
So what do surfers do when traveling? Duct tape provided some immediate protection though unsightly.
Now, with Surfco Hawaii's Quick Fix Surfboard Ding Repair Kit, $14.95, repairs can be completed in minutes.
The kit in a sealable baggy includes fiberglass cloth for bigger dings, surfboard foam to thicken resin if necessary, fiberglass roving for fin repairs, scissors, sandpaper, a wooden applicator, rubber squeegee, and a 4-1/2-ounce bottle of U.V. Cure Clear Resin with chopped fibers.
This special resin when exposed to direct sunlight will harden into a gel in less than 5 minutes. When it dries, the patched area is ready to sand.
The Quick Fix Surfboard Ding Repair Kit available at most surfshops.
