Roosevelt unveiled its new uniforms last night, while visiting Kailua showed a new intensity.

The Surfriders scored touchdowns on three of their four first-half drives to cruise into halftime with a 24-0 lead en route to a 45-6 Oahu Interscholastic Association White Conference football victory over the Roughriders at Roosevelt.

"The guys stepped it up tonight," Kailua head coach Darren Johnson said. "They came in hungry and worked hard from start to finish."

The Surfriders drove down the field on their first possession, needing only six running plays and a facemask penalty before running back Keoni Brown bulled in from the 5.

Roosevelt failed to answer when it was driven backward by a swarming Kailua defense that recorded successive sacks by Makahaa Wolfgram and Brown.

Kailua scored on its next drive when quarterback Chico Cantiberos hit John Kepa on a pattern across the middle of the end zone. After a successful two-point conversion, the rout was on.

The Roughriders offered a glimmer of hope early in the second quarter when Allen Gregory and Blaine Souza stacked Cantiberos on a failed option play on fourth down.

Paul Gusman nearly carried the Roughriders the length of the field until he fumbled on his sixth carry of the drive on a third-and-2 from the Kailua 33-yard line.

The Surfers took the gift and capitalized on it after a Roosevelt personal foul moved the ball to midfield and Cantiberos hooked up with Kepa on a 53-yard scoring strike.

Kailua outgained Roosevelt, 432-132, in total yards and 316-22 on the ground.

Running back Rocky Alo slashed for 170 yards on 18 carries and Brown gained 65 yards on nine attempts. Cantiberos passed for 116 yards, including 76 yards and two touchdowns to Kepa.

bullet Waianae 30, Farrington 7: At Waianae, Sam Keaulii hit Ben Oclary with two touchdown passes as the defending OIA champion Seariders struck for 17 points in the final three minutes of the first half in a Red Conference contest.

Waianae led, 13-7, before Oclary scored on a 37-yard pass from Keaulii with 2:45 to play in the half and Keaulii passed to Ronald Mahiai for a two-point conversion.

After a Farrington punt, Kalani Anguay kicked a 20-yard field goal, giving the Seariders a 24-7 lead with 53 seconds left. Just 10 seconds later, after the Governors turned the ball over, Keaulii and Oclary hooked up on a 14-yard TD pass.
