BOE, other officials to meet with LeMahieu
Incoming state Schools Superintendent Paul LeMahieu will meet with the Board of Education, the attorney general and the government Ethics Commission this afternoon to work out language of a contract that both sides feel confident will be resolved.LeMahieu spoke at a student leadership conference this morning. Board chairwoman Karen Knudsen said LeMahieu's trip here is being funded by the Department of Education.
LeMahieu said generally only one of his contract concerns deals with money. He estimates it will cost about $30,000 to move his family instead of the $20,000 initially proposed by the board.
Knudsen said they will talk to the Ethics Commission about the legality of other noncontract issues such as pension and providing some housing assistance. LeMahieu said other points deal with issues like making his evaluation more performance-oriented.
"It's time to focus on accountability. There ought to be a foundation of performance. I would ask that of the whole system," he said.
Knudsen said the Department of Education paid for LeMahieu's trip this week even though the contract was not signed. "We want the man," Knudsen said.
The Board of Education sent him a contract Thursday, and LeMahieu responded in memo Friday. The issues on his memo will be discussed this afternoon. Knudsen said the full board will meet Thursday to discuss the contract.
No increase planned for students' meals
