Neiman to have
top restaurant

Mug shot NEIMAN Marcus' third-floor Mariposa restaurant, which will seat 200 people inside and on the deck, has a marvelous ocean view overlooking Ala Moana Park and is sure to become a favorite spot. The $43 million, 160,000-square-foot store will open at Ala Moana Center Sept. 18 and the N.M. people are not worried one bit about the poor economy here. Al Tomonari, veepee and G.M. of the upscale store, says Neiman Marcus has been trying to get here for 18 years and plans to be here for the long haul. Tomonari is a local boy, a '64 Roosevelt grad. He comes from N.M.'s Palo Alto store where he was G.M. Vince Motas, who managed Bernini here, has joined Neiman as personal shopper manager. Nancy Nagamine, formerly of Liberty House, and Darlene McKinley from InterPacific have joined Neiman as merchandise manager and human resources chief, respectively. Pauline Worsham, from Bank of Hawaii, will handle public relations ...

Silver Biceps flex muscles

ABOUT 40 people took part in the annual Silver Bicep festivities recently. Many did the 4-to-5-mile fun run or walk near Old Pali Road. Members of the Order of the Silver Bicep must be at least 60. They are sponsored by Clark Hatch Fitness Center. This year's event honored the 79th birthday of Dr. Robert Spicer. He ran with Bicep members Mike Elinski, Mel Masuda, John Hennessy, Burl Pepper, Harry "The Horse" Siegmund and Hatch. Entertainment was arranged by Harry and wife, Peggy Siegmund, complete with a jug band made up of Hatch members. Harry played accordion. A picnic followed at Old Pali Road. NOW that paddler Donna Kahakui completed a 72-mile canoe voyage from Maui to Oahu in about 20 hours June 20 to make people aware of Kai Makana's efforts to protect ocean environment and marine wildlife, the group is holding a fund-raiser. An Evening Under the Stars is July 18 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon Green. Roland Cazimero will emcee. Entertainers include Teresa Bright, and Jerry Santos and Olomana. Jeremiah Tower and Kelvin Ro will prepare food. Wine is by M&S Brokerage. Cost is $100, with $50 deductible. L.A. deejay Rick Dees of "Weekly Top 40" fame did five daily morning radio shows for KIIS-FM from the Four Seasons on Maui recently. Dees has a daily audience of 1.7 million people. Guests included Dees' wife, comedienne Julie Dees, who is the voice of Casper the Friendly Ghost, and Maui entertainer Eric Gilliom ... Chef George Brown Jr. of Seventeen Seventeen in Dallas will prepare his specialties in the Bali Friday and next Saturday ...
