Wendy Lam has her fingers in so many pots that it's a wonder her hands don't cramp. Or fall off.
Work makes life 'memorable'
But she prefers it that way. "I like keeping busy, I like finding things to do," Lam said. "It's fun. It makes my life more memorable."
The McKinley High alum, who graduated with honors this past Sunday, ranked No. 1 in her class, even with long days that included work and extracurricular activities.
"Sometimes you have to balance work and all the scholarship. It's so stressing," she said.
Lam, whom post high school counselor Cynthia Kunimura described as "incredible," juggled a full course load, scholarship and college applications, duties as president of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the math team, kung fu practice and activities with the Chinese Christian Church Fellowship.
She also volunteers at Queen's Medical Center distributing meals, delivering flowers and helping to discharge patients, "small things here and there" that give her a boost in the medical industry, she said.
Until Lam heads to UCLA in October, she plans to relax and help out in her family's Chinese restaurant, where she can put her 10 years of Chinese language schooling to good use.
Now almost fluent in Cantonese, the only language spoken at home, Lam said she can definitely take food orders more easily.
