Weekend Fun
'Carmina'with a crowd
Star-BulletinThe Honolulu Symphony's season finale will look more crowded than rush hour on H-1 when "A Sonic Spectacular!" debuts Sunday with more than 250 on-stage voices of the Kyoto City Philharmonic Chorus, Honolulu Waldorf School Junior Chorus, Oahu Choral Society and tenor Laurence Paxton perform Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana."
Orff wrote the musical in 1937 after being inspired by an obscure volume of medieval songs and poetry.
Participation of the Kyoto City Philharmonic Chorus is part of the symphony's ongoing program of East-West collaborations with top Asian soloists and choruses made possible by a half-million dollar endowment from Sony.
