Kalapa manages group of managers

Lowell L. Kalapa has been elected president of the Aloha Society of Association Executives, which is composed of executives who manage trade and professional organizations in Hawaii. "My goal is to beef up and strengthen association management skills so they can carry out their jobs as association managers," he said.

The Aloha Society's quarterly workshops deal with subjects such as liability exposure and ways to encourage people to volunteer. The education also assists executives in dealing with public policy issues.

Kalapa is a 1967 graduate of Punahou School who earned his bachelor's degree in economics and political science and master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He worked for one year as a researcher at the state legislature before joining the Tax Foundation in 1973. He became the foundation's executive director and president in 1979.
