reportedly has commitments from
two junior college players
and a high schooler
Star-BulletinNo news was . . . no news. But the University of Hawaii men's basketball coaches didn't seem particularly worried as the first day of the NCAA early signing period came and went without a sound from the fax machine.
"They've all got their paperwork and we're just waiting for them to send it back," said Rainbows assistant coach Jackson Wheeler said.
Although coaches aren't permitted to discuss recruits before letters of intent are received, wire service reports said Hawaii has commitments from two California junior college players and a high school senior from California.
Expected to return letters of intent this week are Damon Lee, a 6-foot-4 guard from Monterey Peninsula College (Monterey, Calif.); Gary Gillman, a 6-4 swingman from Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Mike McIntyre, a 6-2 point guard from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High School.
Hawaii has three more scholarships for next season, but doesn't expect to sign anyone else until spring. Head coach Riley Wallace said two of the scholarships will go to post players.
Hawaii will lose six seniors from this year's team: guards Alika Smith and Anthony "AC" Carter, and forwards Micah Kroeger, Eric Ambrozich, Mike Robinson and Ales Zivanovic.
