"We're working on a global network to communicate and collaborate," Halter said. "We're hoping to have it in place by the end of the second quarter next year." The firm has offices in Hawaii, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Guam, the Philippines, Seattle and Florida.
Belt Collins will send blueprints and computer aided design documents between offices using a secured system, he said.
Halter was assistant director of the Hawaii mapping research group at the University of Hawaii from 1991 to 1993.
He began at Belt Collins in 1994 as an environmental scientist/geologist. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in geology from Southhampton College and has a master's degree in geology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
