A way to check
e-mail on the road

Here's a new, free way to check your e-mail when you are traveling.

Shoot over to http://mailstart.com for an easy way to access your mailbox from a Web page.

"No personal information forms to fill out or new e-mail addresses to give friends and associates, just your e-mail when you want it," according to the site's sponsors, a computing firm called Bipedal.Computing in Napa, Calif.

You won't be able to escape all the ads when you download your mail, but by punching in your address and your password, all your messages are available.

The service is a gateway that actually contacts your mail server and converts the content to HTML code, allowing access to your regular e-mail.

"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
