Alexio to be inducted

World heavyweight kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio will be inducted into the American Okinawan Karate Association Hall of Fame this Friday.

Alexio is being honored as the top martial arts fighter of the last quarter century in a ceremony in Bayonne, N.J. Grand Masters Don Nagle, Peter Urban and S. Henry Cho will present Alexio.

Alexio currently holds 14 world kickboxing titles. His career record is 65-1 with 60 knockouts, including a string of 30 consecutive knockouts dating back to 1989.

RAINBOW GOLFERS FOURTH: At San Diego, the University of Hawaii men's golf team opened its season with a fourth-place finish at the Montecito Intercollegiate Invitational yesterday.

The Rainbows had a team aggregate of 896, 12 strokes behind winner San Diego State.

Hawaii freshman Isaac Sanchez finished third overall in the 54-hole competition with a 219, four shots behind medalist James Stewart of San Diego State.

Other Hawaii golfers were: Van Wright (19th), Bret Parker (23rd) and Ryan Koshi and Jarrod Mizusawa (tied for 31st). Thirteen teams and 66 individuals competed at the par-72 Carlton Oaks Country Club.

HPU BEATS OREGON STATE: At Corvallis, Ore., the Hawaii Pacific University men's soccer team defeated Oregon State, 2-1, yesterday.
