Accounting on Tokyo time

Keith Kogachi, a new partner at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, is serving a four-year rotation with the firm's international practice in Japan.

"I am working both as an advisor (to the Japanese) on how our U.S. practice does things and I'll also be expected to serve some U.S. clients with their operations in Japan," Kogachi said.

He noted that while there are differences between how Japan and the United States handle business numbers his accounting efforts must produce "some consistency" conforming to a world standard.

Kogachi went to the KPMG Century Audit Corp. in Tokyo last fall to start work on the international business. He joined the company's Honolulu office in 1982.

Kogachi earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and master's degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii.
